Key Concepts
Understanding these core concepts will help you get the most out of Asky.
Workspace
A Workspace is the top-level organizational unit in Asky. It contains:
- Brand(s) you’re monitoring
- Team members with different access levels
- Billing and subscription settings
- All monitors, content, and opportunities
Think of a workspace as your company or agency account. If you manage multiple brands (as an agency), they all live within one workspace.
Workspace Roles
| Role | Permissions |
|---|---|
| Admin | Full access, billing management, member invitations |
| Member | Access to all features except billing and team management |
Brand
A Brand represents a company, product, or entity you’re monitoring in AI search. Each brand has:
- Name: Your company or product name
- Website URL: Your primary domain
- Description: What your company does
- Industry: Your business category
- Target Audience: Who you serve
- Primary Market: Your main geographic region
- Keywords: Terms you want to be associated with
When you add a brand, Asky automatically analyzes your website to extract this information. You can edit it anytime in the Brand Profile.
Monitor
A Monitor can be used to manage specific categories of prompts.
Prompt
A Prompt is the actual query sent to AI platforms. Asky may generate multiple prompts from a single monitor to capture different phrasings, you can also add your own prompts to target specific keywords or phrases:
- “What is the best CRM software for startups?”
- “Compare CRM solutions for small businesses”
- “Top CRM tools in 2024”
Prompts are executed against AI platforms to generate responses.
Response
A Response is the answer returned by an AI platform to a prompt. Each response contains:
- Text: The full AI-generated answer
- Provider: Which AI platform generated it (ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, Google)
- Citations: Sources the AI referenced
- Mentions: Brands and competitors mentioned
- Sentiment: Whether mentions are positive, neutral, or negative
Most AI Visibility platforms use the APIs to query LLMs. The responses from the API are very different from the responses real users get, Asky therefore uses AI agents to simulate real users. This is currently the only way to get accurate response data.
Asky also gathers data on Fanout Queries (ChatGPT & Perplexity) and Related Questions (Google), which are used directly to improve prompts and opportunities.
Citation
A Citation occurs when an AI response references a source. Asky tracks:
- URL: The source being cited
- Type: Category of source (news, blog, video, academic, etc.)
Citations are crucial for understanding why AI systems mention (or don’t mention) your brand. If competitors are cited more often, their content may be more visible to AI crawlers.
AI Crawler
An AI Crawler is a bot that AI companies use to access web content. Different crawlers serve different purposes:
| Crawler | Company | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| GPTBot | OpenAI | Training data collection |
| OAI-SearchBot | OpenAI | Search index building |
| ChatGPT-User | OpenAI | Real-time content retrieval |
| ClaudeBot | Anthropic | Training data collection |
| Claude-User | Anthropic | Real-time content retrieval |
| PerplexityBot | Perplexity | Index and retrieval |
| Google-Extended | AI training and features |
Live retrieval crawlers (like ChatGPT-User) indicate that an AI is fetching your content in real-time to answer a user’s question. This is different from background training crawlers.
Workflow
A Workflow is an automated task that runs in the background. Workflows can be:
- Triggered manually via the Workflows page

| Reddit Discovery | Find engagement opportunities on Reddit |

| Type | What It Covers |
|---|---|
| Content Opportunities | Content performance, readability, engagement |
